UPM-Kymmene has operated their own liner service from Finland to Spain since year 2000. 2000-2003 they employed the vessels Link Star, Mimer and Midas, 2004 Link Star was exchanged for Mistral and since 2005 the line has been operated by Mistral and Miranda. As from beginning of 2008 the service will be operated by newbuildings 1281 and 1282.

The long term view taken by UPM has given good results and the interest from third party cargo owners has increased. The increase of both UPM's own cargo and third party cargo is expected to continue and it has therefore been decided to lengthen the newbuildings.

Newbuildings 1281 and 1282 will thus be lengthened by 12,6 m for a total length of 163,9 m and the deadweight will increase from 9.500 mt to 11.300 mt. The trailer capacity will increase from 1.900 lm to 2.150 lm and the container capacity from 420 TEU to 484 TEU. The delivery time for the two newbuildings remains unchanged despite the lengthening and is October and December 2007.
