Godby Shipping orders two roros for UPM-Kymmene traffic

2005-02-24

The Godby Shipping group has ordered two 9.500 dwt roro vessels from Sietas shipyard in Germany. The vessels, ordered by Oy Trailer-Link Ab and Minicarriers Ab, will be delivered in October and December 2007. Both vessels will be time chartered to UPM-Kymmene Oyj for their forest products traffic.

The vessels have been designed in co-operation between UPM-Kymmene, Godby Shipping and Sietas shipyard. The vessels are optimised for transportation of paper products but they can also carry cassettes, containers and trailers. Major factors have been a high service speed, environmental friendliness, efficient cargo handling and good ice going capability. The vessels will be built to Finnish/Swedish ice class IA Super.

The Wärtsilä 6L46F main engines will be fitted with Wärtsiläs newly developed CASS system for reduction of NOx emissions. The vessels are equipped with stabilising fins reducing the movement in rough seas, anti-heeling system reducing the movement during loading and discharging and a free fall lifeboat.

The vessels are loaded and discharged via a stern ramp. Fixed ramps connect the main deck with the lower hold and the weather deck. All decks can thus be loaded and discharged simultaneously.

The main data are as follows:
Length 151,30 m
Beam 23,40 m
Draft 7,20 m
Dwt 9.500 ton
Ice class IA Super
